EV Charger Installation

VoltLine Electric installs Level 2 EV chargers for Tesla, ChargePoint, Emporia, and other NACS and J1772 units. Every install starts with an NEC 220.87 load calculation, runs on a dedicated permitted circuit, and is inspected before the charger is energized.

Where a permit is required, we pull it, schedule the inspection, meet the inspector on site, and hand you the signed-off documentation. It matters at resale and it matters to your insurer.

Two-year workmanship guarantee

If something we installed fails because of how we installed it, we come back and fix it at no charge for two years. Manufacturer warranties on parts run alongside that.

Questions about the work itself

How do I know if my electrical panel needs upgrading?

Replace an electrical panel if it is a Federal Pacific Stab-Lok, Zinsco, or Challenger unit, if it is a fuse box, if it is a 60- or 100-amp service feeding a modern household, if breakers trip repeatedly, or if the panel is warm, rusted, or has no room for new circuits. VoltLine Electric will inspect the panel and tell you plainly whether it needs replacing now, can be monitored, or is fine as is.

How long does a whole-home rewire take?

A whole-home rewire in a typical central Ohio house takes five to fifteen working days depending on square footage, wall finishes, and attic and crawlspace access. VoltLine Electric works room by room so you keep power in most of the house each night, and we give you a written day-by-day schedule before starting.

Can my house handle a Level 2 EV charger?

Most homes with a 200-amp service can support a Level 2 EV charger, and many 100- and 150-amp services can too once actual usage is measured. VoltLine Electric performs an NEC 220.87 load calculation using your real metered demand rather than a worst-case estimate, which frequently shows a charger will fit without a service upgrade. If it will not fit, we tell you before you buy the charger.

What size standby generator do I need?

Most central Ohio homes are well served by an 18kW to 26kW air-cooled standby generator, but the correct size comes from a load calculation, not from square footage. VoltLine Electric measures the loads you actually want covered, which is often furnace, well or sump pump, refrigeration, and selected circuits rather than the entire house, and sizes the unit and transfer switch to that list.

Why do my breakers keep tripping?

A breaker that trips repeatedly is doing its job and is reporting a real problem: an overloaded circuit, a short circuit, a ground fault, a loose or corroded connection, or a failing breaker. Resetting it over and over does not fix the fault and can allow heat to build inside the wall. VoltLine Electric traces the circuit, confirms the cause with thermal imaging where needed, and repairs the actual fault.

Do you work on commercial properties?

Yes. VoltLine Electric serves light commercial properties including offices, retail suites, restaurants, salons, and small multi-tenant buildings across the Columbus metro. Typical work includes panel and service upgrades, tenant fit-outs, lighting retrofits, exit and emergency lighting, and code-correction work ahead of an inspection. Heavy industrial work is outside our scope.
